If you’re looking to upgrade your flight panel, you should learn more about Garmin’s economical GPS 175 and its G5 electronic flight instrument...

Garmin GPS 175

The new GPS 175 is yet another economical addition to any aircraft panel. Starting at a list price of $4,995 USD, the GPS 175 is fully WAAS-capable, giving pilots the benefit of accessing LPV, LP and RNAV instrument approaches. Pilots can also leverage the touchscreen and moving map to easily generate customized holding patterns over an existing fix in the navigation database or a userdefined waypoint, and insert it into a flight plan.

Visual approaches are also provide lateral and vertical approach guidance in visual flight conditions. These approaches offer added assurance at unfamiliar airports or in challenging environments to ensure the aircraft is aligned properly with the correct runway, while also taking into consideration terrain and obstacle avoidance.

Designed to replace earlier-generation products such as the GPS 150/155 series, GX 50/55, as well as the KLN 89/90/94 series, pilots won’t have to make significant panel modifications to accommodate the GPS 175. Pilots can also retain many of their existing flight instruments, audio panels and CDI/EHSI indicators such as the KI 209, or easily pair it with a new or existing flight display like the G5 electronic flight instrument.

Built-in Connext cockpit connectivity also gives pilots the benefits and efficiencies of a wireless cockpit, enabling wireless flight plan transfer via Bluetooth to and from compatible portables and mobile devices running Garmin Pilot.

G5 electronic flight instrument

Comprising of a bright, 3.5-inch sunlight readable liquid crystal display (LCD), the G5 electronic flight instrument is approved for installation in place of the aircraft’s existing attitude indicator, DG or HSI via a Garmin-held STC for hundreds of certificated fixed-wing aircraft models.

The compact and cost-effective G5 delivers exceptional performance and reliability serving as either a back-up instrument to G3X or other EFIS systems or as a standalone primary flight instrument. As an attitude indicator, G5 displays attitude, ground track, altitude, airspeed, groundspeed, vertical speed, slip/skid, course (lateral) deviation, vertical deviation and incorporates a dedicated HSI page. Utilizing a magnetometer, the G5 electronic flight instrument displays magnetic heading.

When paired with the GTN 650/750, GNS 430W/530W, non-WAAS GNS 430/530 or GNS 480 navigators, the G5 is approved as a primary source to display vertical and lateral GPS/VOR/LOC course deviation when available.

Utilizing the new GAD 29B adapter, the G5 DG/HSI can also interface with a variety of autopilots to provide heading and course error to drive the autopilot. The G5 electronic flight instrument is EASA certified and is available immediately for installation in hundreds of certified fixed-wing aircraft models.

The G5 electronic flight instrument can be purchased through the Garmin Authorized Dealer network at a list price of $2,149 USD, which includes the install kit, back-up battery and STC, and $2,499 USD with an optional back-up battery.

The G5 DG/HSI is available starting at $2,449 USD, which includes the install kit, magnetometer, back-up battery and the STC. When interfaced with a compatible GPS navigator, the G5 DG/HSI electronic flight instrument is available with the GAD 29B adapter at a list price of $2,975 USD.
