The Challenger 604 has often been compared with the Dassault Falcon 2000 which, likewise, has a range of about 4,000nm and is typically configured for 10 passengers.
The Challenger 604’s modest fuel consumption and low operating costs give it a high level of mission flexibility. Its powerful and reliable CF34-3B engines make it comfortably capable of long-distance flight. When combined with its roomy cabin, this makes the Challenger 604 a versatile option for business travellers.
The Challenger 605 aircraft offers upgrades on the Challenger 604 in a number of areas. The newer aircraft has larger cabin windows, and features a new avionics suite, with the Collins Aerospace Pro Line 21 system incorporating large avionics displays. Additionally, the Challenger 605 aircraft has a new, rounded tail cone.

The Challenger 604 is a longer-range development of the Challenger 601-3R, though it offers a number of improvements, such as upgraded GE CF34-3B engines, larger fuel capacity, upgraded avionics suite and a completely redesigned undercarriage with an improved braking system.
Typically configured for 10 passengers, but able to hold up to 12, although the Challenger 604 ceased production in 2006, it continues to make market waves today. As recently as August 2020, MHS Aviation, a Germany-based charter operator, added a new platform to its fleet. Other operators include FAI rent-a-jet.
In total, just over 360 Challenger 604s were produced.

What features does the Challenger 604 offer?
As mentioned, the upgrades to the Bombardier Challenger 604 gave it significantly enhanced performance characteristics compared to the earlier Challenger 601. The upgraded CF34-3B engines, along with an increased fuel capacity, boosted range to 4,000nm (with five passengers).
Meanwhile, take-off weight (48,000lbs) and landing weight were improved through the addition of the new undercarriage, and there were also structural upgrades to the wing and tail. Avionics on the Challenger 604 usually includes the Pro Line 4 package.
What came before and after the Bombardier Challenger 604?
The Challenger 604 was followed by the Bombardier Challenger 605 jet, which introduced an avionics and structural upgrade. The Challenger 604 is part of the long-running Challenger 600 family, initially developed by Canadair in the 1970s, before Canadair was acquired by Bombardier. As mentioned, it succeeded the Challenger 601-3R model.
Today, the line is represented by the Bombardier Challenger 650 jet, launched in 2014 and now Bombardier’s best-selling Large Jet platform. The Challenger 650 features a Bombardier Vision flight deck with Synthetic Vision System, MultiScan weather radar systems and other new features.
