FAQs: Bombardier Global Express XRS Jets for Sale

Here are the most Frequently Asked Questions for Bombardier Global Express XRS Jets for sale
  • How much does a Bombardier Global Express XRS cost?

The Bombardier Global Express XRS costs between $12.50m for a 2005 model and $18m for a 2012 model, per Aircraft Bluebook’s Spring 2022 data. These values represent average retail prices for each model year. Actual sale prices for individual aircraft may be impacted by a variety of factors, including its maintenance condition and the time on its airframe and engines. These types of airplane specifics may determine a sale price above or below the average retail for the model year.

  • What competes with the Bombardier Global Express XRS?

Among the other pre-owned jets competing with the Bombardier Global Express XRS is the Gulfstream GV which had a slightly higher ‘seats-full’ range than the Global Express XRS, but a slightly smaller cabin volume. Both jets are typically configured to seat 13 passengers.

  • What makes the Bombardier Global Express XRS stand out?

Bombardier was unequivocal that the cabin volume and range capability of the Global Express XRS were what made it stand out among its competition. Delivery numbers of the aircraft support the fact that Bombardier was successful in providing a combination that was highly prized by the industry. Over just seven years of production, 163 units were built, per JETNET data.

  • What is the difference between a Bombardier Global Express XRS and Global 6000?

Essentially a rebranded Global Express XRS, the Bombardier Global 6000 is a very similar aircraft to its predecessor. However, the Global 6000’s wing design delivers a very smooth ride, while passenger comfort is enhanced further thanks to an even quieter cabin in the Global 6000. The Global 6000 also has Bombardier’s Vision Flight Deck avionics suite.

Bombardier Global Express XRS Overview

By Matt Harris, Editor - AvBuyer magazine

Sharing its cabin dimensions with the Global Express, the Bombardier Global Express XRS offers a generous cabin volume (2,002 cubic feet) and a slight increase in luggage capacity (195 cubic feet). It is typically configured to seat up to 13 passengers, though it can carry up to 19. A pair of Rolls-Royce BR710-A2-20 engines power the jet.

Today, a Global Express XRS costs between $10m for a 2005 model, and $17m for a 2012 model, according to Aircraft Bluebook data. These values represent the average retail price reported in spring 2021.

According to JETNET, Bombardier manufactured 163 Global Express XRS jets before upgrading it with newer avionics and rebranding it as the Global 6000 in 2012.

What features does the Bombardier Global Express XRS offer?

Bombardier Global emphasised passenger comfort as a key selling point for the Global Express XRS. Of all the business jets on the market or in development at the time of its arrival to market, Bombardier claimed that the Global Express XRS offered 45% more floor space than its closest competitor.

Its cabin comes in a three-compartment configuration, and has a 4,500ft altitude at flight level 450, rising to 5,680ft at 51,000ft.

The Bombardier Global Express XRS uses the same Rolls-Royce BR710-A2-20 engines as the original Global Express jet model, while it also incorporates the Bombardier Enhanced Vision System, helping reduce the risk of controlled flight into terrain and runway incursions in low-visibility conditions.

What came before and after the Bombardier Global Express XRS?

The Bombardier Global Express XRS followed the Global Express to market. The Global Express started deliveries in 1999 and provided the initial challenge from Bombardier for market share in the ultra-long-range purpose-built business jet arena that had been monopolized by the Gulfstream GV up to that point.

After seven years of production, the Global Express XRS was eventually replaced by the updated Global 6000 jet, a rebranded variant of the aircraft, essentially making it the third Bombardier entrant into the ultra-long-range business jet market.
